Mulder has been affiliated with the Libertarian Party of Arapahoe County and was the Libertarian candidate for Arapahoe County Sheriff in 2018, receiving 5.3 percent of the vote.[3] In 2022 he was the Libertarian candidate for Colorado's 6th Congressional District, finishing third with 2.0 percent behind Rep. Jason Crow and Steve Monahan.[3] In 2024 he ran for Colorado House District 36 as a Forward Party candidate and lost to Democrat Michael Carter, 71.5 percent to 28.5 percent.[3]
Mulder is on the November 3, 2026, ballot for governor as the Libertarian nominee, with Wayne Harlos as his running mate for lieutenant governor.[1][2][3] In his Ballotpedia survey he named three campaign messages: a one-year emergency state sales tax holiday that would let qualifying counties keep the 2.9 percent they usually remit to the state, stricter requirements for agencies seeking private surveillance camera footage, and a mix of energy sources including small modular reactors, natural gas, wind, solar and geothermal.[3]

Priorities
- Keeping tax dollars local: a one-year exemption from the state sales tax for economically distressed communities, which could replace it with a local tax subject to voter approval.[4]
- Privacy: opposing government-operated Flock license-plate cameras.[4]
- Energy: a path for small modular nuclear reactors in Colorado.[4]
Statements, quoted without a stance
