Jaime R. Williams

DAssembly Member · District 59

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: NY State Assembly · District 59

Biography

Jaime Williams is the incumbent Democratic and Conservative Party candidate for Assembly District 59, first elected in an April 2016 special election to fill a vacancy. A social worker and substance-abuse counselor by training, she worked for Catholic Charities before entering the Assembly, where she chairs the Real Property Taxation Committee. She won the June 2026 Democratic primary over Jibreel Jalloh.[1][2][3]

According to the Assembly's biography, Jaime Williams studied at Kingsborough Community College, then earned a bachelor's degree in social work from York College and a master's degree in social work from Fordham University.[2] She later returned to Kingsborough to earn a CASAC-T certificate as an Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor with a specialization in gambling counseling.[2] Williams has more than eight years of experience counseling women and children who were victims of domestic violence, and clients who were HIV-positive with a history of substance abuse.[2]

She served as Community Project Director for Brooklyn East at Catholic Charities, providing outreach programs in Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie, and Mill Basin, and worked with Catholic Charities on relief for residents of Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Gerritsen Beach, and Coney Island after Superstorm Sandy.[2] She is a past member of the 69th Precinct Community Council, the Mill Basin Civic Association, and Brooklyn Community Board 18, and is a member of the Canarsie Lions Club and NYC's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).[2]

Williams took office after a special election on April 19, 2016, to fill the seat left vacant when Roxanne Persaud was elected to the state Senate, defeating Republican Jeffrey J. Ferretti.[1][2] She won a full term in November 2016 with 78.1% of the vote against Ferretti.[1] Her 2025-2026 committee assignments are Agriculture, Environmental Conservation, Governmental Operations, Real Property Taxation (chair), and Transportation.[1] The Assembly biography says she has led humanitarian relief missions to aid several countries and territories in the Caribbean and spearheaded a mission to Kentucky after the December 2021 tornado.[2] In the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary she defeated Jibreel Jalloh, 66.0% to 33.8%, and she advanced from the Conservative Party primary, which was canceled.[1][3]
