Biography

Jibreel Jalloh is a Brooklyn-born community organizer and nonprofit leader running for Assembly District 59 on the Working Families Party line after losing the June 2026 Democratic primary to incumbent Jaime Williams. According to his campaign website, he is an Obama Scholar who has also built a small business, and he is running on lowering costs, protecting homeowners, preventing gun violence, and addressing flooding.[1][2]

According to his campaign website, Jibreel Jalloh is the son of a union nurse and a taxi driver who immigrated to New York, and he was born and raised in Brooklyn.[3][2] City & State describes him as a community organizer from Canarsie and the founder and executive director of the nonprofit The Flossy Organization, which focuses on grassroots activism on issues facing southeast Brooklyn such as gun violence, climate change and transportation, and as an Obama Foundation Scholar at Columbia University.[4] His campaign describes him as an Obama Scholar, community organizer, and nonprofit CEO.[2]

According to his campaign, he helped stop a pesticide facility from being built near homes and schools, helped secure $1.6 million in funding to prevent gun violence, and supported workers in winning a union.[2] It also says he built a small business, giving him experience meeting payroll and dealing with government red tape.[2]

Jalloh filed in November 2025 to challenge Williams in the June 2026 Democratic primary, City & State reported.[4] He lost that primary to Williams, 33.8% to 66.0%, and advanced from the Working Families Party primary, which was canceled, so he is on the November ballot on that line.[1]
