Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Charity Clark was born and raised in southern Vermont and grew up working in her family's grocery store in Londonderry, Clark's IGA.[4] She is a graduate of Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester, the University of Vermont and Boston College Law School.[1][4] Before law school she was a policy analyst in the Vermont Governor's Office under Governor Howard Dean, and in 2005 she began her legal career as an associate at Downs Rachlin Martin in Burlington, later practicing at Orrick in New York City.[1][4]

Clark joined the Attorney General's Office in 2014, when then-Attorney General Bill Sorrell hired her as an assistant attorney general in the Public Protection Division.[1] She served as chief of staff to Attorney General T.J. Donovan from 2018 to 2022.[1][4] Elected Attorney General in 2022, she was first sworn in on January 5, 2023, and was re-elected in 2024; both the office and her campaign describe her as the first woman elected to the position.[1][3][4] She advanced from the Democratic primary for the office on August 11, 2026.[5]

Clark serves on the executive committees of the National Association of Attorneys General and the Democratic Attorneys General Association.[4] She is also a justice of the peace and chair of the board of her town library, and she completed Vermont's 272-mile Long Trail in 2021.[1][4]
