General election · Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Sources re-checked October 19, 2026 · How we research
- This is an open seat: Republican Gov. Henry McMaster is ineligible to seek a third consecutive term.[1]
- In the June 9 Republican primary, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette finished first but did not win a majority, triggering a June 23 runoff. Attorney General Alan Wilson won the runoff with 68.6% of the vote after President Trump announced support for both finalists.[1]
- Democratic state Rep. Jermaine Johnson won the June 9 Democratic primary with 59.7% of the vote over Billy Webster (29.6%) and Mullins McLeod (10.7%).[1]
- The Green Party's Walid Hakim and the United Citizens Party's Michael Addison, nominated at their parties' conventions, are also on the ballot, making four governor tickets in all. The State Election Commission's candidate-tracking list shows exactly these four tickets as active.[10][1][2][9]

Issue evidence — side by side
Recorded votes, documented positions and candidates’ own words are shown with sources. “In their own words” quotes a candidate on the topic without inferring a stance. Votes describe specific bills or motions; they do not establish overall support or opposition to a broad issue. A dash means our research has no evidence on that topic, not that the candidate has no position.

Research notes & limits
Running mates are noted in each candidate's ballotNote rather than as separate entries. Ballotpedia was not reachable (it blocks automated requests) and the four-candidate slate was checked against the State Election Commission's Candidate Tracking System for the 11/3/2026 general election, which lists Wilson/Reichenbach (Republican), Johnson/Skardon (Democratic), Hakim/Karr (Green) and Addison/Brewer (United Citizens) as active; the SC Daily Gazette voter guide and The Green Papers agree. The repository has no South Carolina House roll-call snapshot, so no floor votes are cited for Rep. Johnson, and the official legislature page for his data-center resolution was not found (it is cited through SC Daily Gazette). Wilson's statement that he believes the six-week law should stand was relayed through his team after the debate, per the Gazette. Walid Hakim and Michael Addison were minimal entries; see the update at the end of these notes. Update: Hakim's positions come from the Policy Platform page of his campaign site (walidnhakim.com), and Addison's from the Fort Mill Sun candidate questionnaire (Oct. 14) and a WCSC interview (Sept. 24); both are now 'basic'. Addison's campaign site (addisonforsc.com) lists no issue positions.
