Biography
Tim Merrick is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 20 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against Republican Dane Scalise for an open seat. A chiropractic physician and small business owner, he is a member of the New Hanover County Board of Education.[1][2][3]
Tim Merrick graduated from Plattsburgh High School and from New York Chiropractic College in 1991.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he has owned a small business for nearly five decades, that his mother was a first-grade teacher and his father a middle-school principal, and that his career has included patient care as a chiropractic physician, international humanitarian missions and service on the local school board.[3]
Merrick advanced from the Democratic primary on March 3, 2026, which was canceled.[1] In the survey, he listed his priorities as affordability for working families, fully funded public schools, accountability over special interests, and investing in communities rather than corporate incentives.[3]
