Biography
Susan Doman is the Democratic candidate for Kentucky House of Representatives District 27 in the November 3, 2026 general election; her Democratic primary was canceled and she advanced without appearing on the ballot.[1] Ballotpedia lists her as a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1979 to 1985, and in a survey she described a career that included more than two decades in public service with the U.S. Foreign Service.[1][2]
Doman said in a Ballotpedia survey that she was born in Louisville and grew up between Jefferson and Meade counties, and that she enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and became the first woman from Kentucky to enter the Navy's nuclear propulsion program.[2] Ballotpedia lists a bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo in 1998 and a graduate degree from the Naval War College in 2011.[1] She said she later joined the U.S. Foreign Service, where her postings included work on visa and immigration issues in Mexico, counternarcotics in Colombia, peacekeeping in Egypt and Israel, and nuclear nonproliferation in Vienna, and that she was spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.[2]
After retiring from the federal government, Doman returned to Meade County, and she said she has served on the Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission since 2022.[2] She listed transparency and accountability, affordability, and smart growth as her three key campaign messages, and named education as a policy interest.[2]
