Biography
Sarah Slattery is the Democratic nominee for Nebraska Secretary of State and a professional chef and small-business owner from Cass County. She runs a family vineyard and tasting room, volunteers on local boards, and is campaigning on restoring public trust in the office, neutrality and easier voting.[1][2][3]
Slattery was born and raised in Cass County, Nebraska, and graduated from Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School.[1][3] She earned a bachelor's degree from Creighton University in 2004 and an associate degree from Metropolitan Community College in 2011.[3] She has worked as a professional chef and small-business owner for 18 years; in 2008 she opened Slattery Vintage Estates Vineyard and Tasting Room in rural Cass County with her parents, and it has grown into an agri-tourism destination.[1]
Slattery serves on the Plattsmouth Library Board and the Plattsmouth Bridge Commission, and she donates her culinary skills to nonprofits including the Visiting Nurse Association, March of Dimes, EDGE Nebraska City and Keep Cass County Beautiful.[1] She is the mother of a high school student.[1]
Slattery won the Democratic primary on May 12, 2026, defeating Lee Cimfel with 91.2% of the vote.[3] She told WOWT she wants the office to return to a level of neutrality, said she reached 100,000 voters with a budget under $10,000, and noted that she would be Nebraska's first female Secretary of State if elected.[2] Her stated priorities include same-day voter registration and expanded voter education following the adoption of a voter ID law.[1][2]
