Biography

Samuel Pirozzolo is the Republican and Conservative Assembly Member for District 63, first elected in 2022 after losing a 2012 run for the same seat. A Staten Island native, he has operated his family's optical practice for more than three decades and previously served as president of Community Education Council 31. He is running for re-election on bail law reform, support for the NYPD, property taxes and small-business support, according to his campaign website.[1][2][3]

Pirozzolo is a native Staten Islander. According to his Assembly biography, he has operated his family's optical practice for 33 years, and his campaign website describes more than three decades as a small-business owner.[3][2] He served as president of Community Education Council 31 for seven years and as Vice President of the New York City Parents Union.[3][2] His Assembly biography cites a Gifted and Talented program for middle-school students and the cleanup of PCBs leaking from classroom light fixtures among his education-advocacy accomplishments.[3][2]

In 2012 Pirozzolo was the Republican nominee for Assembly District 63 and lost the general election to incumbent Democrat Michael J. Cusick.[1] He won the Republican primary over Paul Ciurcina Jr. on June 28, 2022, and was elected to the Assembly on November 8, 2022, defeating Democrat Vincent Argenziano for the open seat previously held by Cusick.[1][3][2] He was re-elected on November 5, 2024, on the Republican and Conservative lines, defeating Democrat Matthew Mobilia.[1]

Pirozzolo represents Staten Island's West Shore and is assigned in 2025-2026 to the Children and Families, Economic Development/Job Creation/Commerce and Industry, Education, Energy, and Higher Education committees.[1][3][2] According to his campaign website, his work in office has included nearly $500,000 in grants to schools and community organizations, a $12 million portion of the state's Opioid Settlement Fund for Staten Island, and an expansion of the resident bridge-toll discount.[2]
