DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Utah House District 10

Biography

Rosemary Lesser is the Democratic candidate for Utah House of Representatives District 10, a seat she held from 2021 to 2025, in the November 3, 2026 general election against Jim Alvey (R).[1][2] A retired obstetrician/gynecologist and U.S. Air Force veteran, she said in a Ballotpedia survey that her priorities include affordability, public education and restoring the Great Salt Lake.[1][3]

Rosemary Lesser earned a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and an M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1981.[1] She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1992.[1] Her career included work as a laborist with Ogden Clinic, an OB hospitalist with Valley Care Medical Foundation, and an obstetrician/gynecologist with Ogden Women's Clinic and the Air Force.[1] In her survey, she said she settled in Ogden with her husband and three children, practiced there as an OB/GYN, and retired from clinical practice at the end of 2020.[3]

Lesser represented Utah House District 10 from 2021 to 2025.[1] She was assigned to the House Health and Human Services Committee and the Political Subdivisions Committee in both the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 sessions.[1] She won the November 8, 2022 general election over Jill Koford, 52.3% to 47.7%, and lost the November 5, 2024 rematch to Koford, 51.0% to 49.0%.[1] Lesser said her work in the legislature included advocating for educational opportunities, restoring the Great Salt Lake and extending coverage for women after childbirth.[3]

In her 2026 survey, Lesser listed affordability, education and restoring the Great Salt Lake as her key messages.[3] She said she would vote to remove the state sales tax on groceries, supports expanding the First Time Home Buyers program to existing homes, and wants the legislature to work with the State Board of Education and the Utah System of Higher Education rather than micromanage them.[3] She also said she is passionate about health care access, including protecting Medicaid.[3]
