Richard Hricik

DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Attorney General of South Carolina

Biography

Richard Hricik is the Democratic nominee for South Carolina attorney general. A Charleston-area attorney with more than 30 years of civil litigation experience, including before the U.S. Supreme Court, and a former accountant, he runs what he calls a no-donation campaign and focuses on consumer protection, property rights and making the office more accessible to the public.[1][2][3]

Hricik holds a law degree from William & Mary Law School and a business degree in accounting from Cleveland State University, and he worked as an accountant before practicing law.[1] He has more than 30 years of experience as a trial and appellate attorney representing clients against corporations in state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.[1][4]

Hricik teaches criminal justice and constitutional law at William & Mary Law School and the Charleston School of Law, and was previously a professor at Charleston Southern University.[1][4] He lives in Mount Pleasant.[4]

Hricik says he would apply the office's power to protect consumers from debt collectors, scammers and insurers, and he takes no campaign donations, arguing officials can better serve the public when they are not financially tied to donors.[1][2][3]
