Biography

Peter Williams is a tree farmer and former physical education teacher from Lettsworth in Pointe Coupee Parish, running as the Republican candidate for Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District.[2][3] He lists agriculture, health, housing, education, transportation, recreation and incarceration as the areas of his platform.[1][2]

Williams graduated from Kaplan High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1980.[2] According to his Ballotpedia survey, he taught physical education in public schools and then worked for Lafayette Parks and Recreation, where he became the first recreation director at the Martin Luther King center.[2] He says that after marrying in 1981 and entering ministry he moved to Pointe Coupee Parish, and that since 1999 he has been a tree farmer and agribusiness conservation specialist growing hardwood seedlings for reforestation.[2]

Williams appeared on the November 5, 2024 ballot for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, receiving 6,252 votes (2.1 percent) in a race Cleo Fields won outright.[2] The Louisiana Illuminator's voter guide says he has twice previously sought that seat.[3] He says he is married to Alfreda Rodney Williams and that they have four grown children and five grandchildren.[2]
