Biography
Paul Thomasson is the Democratic candidate for Texas State Senate District 5 in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which he faces incumbent Charles Schwertner (R).[1][2] He won the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary over Kevin Nelson, 51.3% to 48.7%.[1]
Thomasson completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2025.[3] In it, he listed jobs and the economy, public education and health care as his key campaign messages and called for raising the federal minimum wage, which has been $7.25 an hour since 2009.[3] He said the environment, immigration and gun violence are the policy areas he cares about most, and that he owns guns but believes they should be much harder for dangerously mentally ill people to obtain.[3]
