Biography
Lucas Hewitt is an independent candidate for Iowa House of Representatives District 61 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against Democrat Vincent Collis.[1][3] A software developer from Waterloo, he said he would consider proposals from either party and post the reasoning behind his votes.[1][2]
Lucas Hewitt graduated from Waterloo West High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 2012; his career experience includes working as a software developer.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he was born and raised in Waterloo, the son of a retired Waterloo police officer and a retired Iowa Department of Corrections probation officer, and that he worked in Christian ministry for several years before becoming an enterprise application developer.[2] He said he is married with three children and fosters animals with the Cedar Bend Humane Society.[2]
Hewitt's survey answers listed three key messages: nonpartisan decision-making, transparent communication about his votes and decisions, and responsive representation, including personally answering constituent messages.[2] He said his focus is on collaboration and compromise around opposing viewpoints rather than on any single policy.[2]
