Biography
Katherine Robertson is the Republican nominee for Alabama attorney general and has been chief counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall for nearly a decade.[1][2] She won a costly June 2026 runoff against former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell and, if elected, would be Alabama's first woman attorney general.[1]
Robertson describes herself in her runoff-night speech as "a girl from Dallas County, Alabama" whose family grew cotton and ran the local post office.[1] She is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Law, according to her campaign.[2]
Before joining the attorney general's office, she was a clerk and counsel to Sen. Jeff Sessions on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and vice president of the Alabama Policy Institute, according to her campaign.[2] As chief counsel to Marshall, she ran in the Republican primary against Mitchell, who resigned from the Alabama Supreme Court in May 2025 to seek the office, and won the June 16 runoff with about 55 percent of the vote.[1]
Robertson lives in Birmingham, according to her campaign.[2]
