Jocelyn Brasher

DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Attorney General of Nebraska

Biography

Jocelyn Brasher is the Democratic nominee for Nebraska Attorney General and a lawyer from Omaha. She spent five years in the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and later worked as a county prosecutor and private litigator, and she is challenging incumbent Mike Hilgers, her former boss, on the argument that he has taken the office in the wrong direction.[1][2]

Brasher earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Auburn University and a law degree from Creighton University School of Law.[3] She began her career as a law clerk in the Douglas County Attorney's Office and later led the child support enforcement division in the Dawson County Attorney's Office, where she was also a deputy county attorney.[1][3]

Brasher then worked for five years as an assistant attorney general in the Nebraska Attorney General's Office, in the Consumer Protection Division under former Attorney General Doug Peterson.[2][3] She later served as a deputy Dodge County attorney and, most recently, was a litigator at an Omaha private firm, Lamson Dugan & Murray LLP.[1][2][3]

Brasher advanced from the May 12, 2026 Democratic primary for Attorney General as the only candidate on the ballot.[3] During the general-election campaign she has said she visited "all four corners of the state" and has been endorsed by several Democrats, including former U.S. senator and governor Ben Nelson, Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird.[2] She has argued that national lawsuits and "culture wars" are not the role of the Attorney General, and that Nebraskans care most about public safety and cracking down on data centers, human trafficking and violent crime.[2]
