Biography

Joanne Kuniansky is the Socialist Workers Party's nominee for U.S. Senate. She has been the party's candidate in a series of New Jersey elections since 2021, including the 2024 U.S. Senate race, in which she received 0.2% of the vote.[1]

Kuniansky was born in New Jersey and attended high school in Atlanta, Georgia, where WHYY reports she became active in the civil rights and anti-Vietnam war movements. She joined the Socialist Workers Party in 1977 and lives in West New York, New Jersey.[2] She has worked as a refinery operator, meat packer, machine operator and Walmart deli worker, and WHYY reports that she has spent much of her adult life as a union activist. A candidate statement from her 2021 campaign likewise said she had worked in oil refineries, railroads and meat packing.[1][2]

Kuniansky has run as the Socialist Workers Party candidate for governor in 2021, for New Jersey's 8th Congressional District in 2022, for New Jersey State Senate District 33 in 2023 (2.9%) and for governor again in 2025.[1] In 2024 she was the party's U.S. Senate candidate in New Jersey and received 9,806 votes (0.2%).[1]
