Biography

Douglas Marsh is the Green Party nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, a journalist from northern Michigan and a volunteer firefighter. He was also the Green nominee in 2024. According to his Ballotpedia survey, his campaign calls for affordable healthcare, an end to illegal wars and housing policy reform.[1][2]

Douglas Marsh was born in 1984 in Traverse City, Michigan, and graduated from Elk Rapids High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Michigan in 2006.[1] His first job, at 13, was as a day laborer on the 1998 cherry harvest, and he later worked in restaurants, ski resorts, construction and landscaping and in office settings. Ballotpedia lists his career experience as journalist, educator, firefighter, landscaper, ski patroller and coal passer.[1]

In 2013 Marsh moved abroad and lectured at a university in Thailand for five years. He says he and his wife, who is from a farming family, had twin girls in 2017, lost one of them at four months to a heart defect, and moved to the United States in 2018.[1] He entered community journalism in 2021 and began volunteer firefighting the following year.[1]

Marsh ran for U.S. Senate in 2024 as the Green Party candidate, receiving 1.0% (53,978 votes) in the race won by Elissa Slotkin.[1] He advanced from the Green Party convention on February 21, 2026, and describes his 2026 campaign as grassroots and without PACs.[1]
