Biography

Christina Hines is the Democratic nominee for Michigan's 10th District. A Macomb County native, she worked as a prosecutor in Wayne and Washtenaw counties and ran unsuccessfully for Macomb County Prosecutor in 2024. She is running on lowering costs for families and protecting Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid from federal cuts.[1][2][3]

According to her campaign website, Hines grew up in Macomb County in a middle-class family and attended Warren Woods Public Schools. She and her husband, David, are raising their children in Macomb County.[2] She attended the University of Michigan and earned a law degree from Wayne State University Law School.[1][2] Hines worked as a prosecutor immediately after law school. Her campaign website says she has prosecuted hate crimes, cold-case sexual assaults, homicide, torture and human trafficking cases in courts from the district level to the Michigan Supreme Court.[2] According to a news report, she was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Wayne County before heading the Special Victims Unit in Washtenaw County, and Ballotpedia's race summary describes her as a former prosecutor and law professor.[3][1]

Hines ran for Macomb County Prosecutor in 2024 against incumbent Peter Lucido, receiving 43% of the vote to his 57%, according to a news report.[3] She announced her candidacy for Michigan's 10th District in April 2025, after incumbent John James said he would run for governor, and won the Democratic primary on August 4, 2026.[3][1][4] She says she is the only candidate in this race who grew up and still lives in Macomb County.[2]
