Biography

Brent Andrews is an unaffiliated write-in candidate for U.S. Senate in Maine and a licensed professional engineer who works at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He says he is self-funding his campaign and accepting no donations, and he lists human rights, the cost of living, housing and Medicare for All among his priorities.[2][3]

Andrews says he was born and raised in Miami in a family that ran a seafood market and restaurant, and that he worked in service jobs for years before returning to school in 2013.[2] He graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Florida in 2019 with a degree in civil engineering focused on coastal engineering.[2]

Since then he has worked on infrastructure projects, including managing architectural and structural work on two public projects in Hawaii valued at $200 million and running field investigations and lab testing for Vermont's emergency road recovery after the 2023 floods.[2] He now works as a field geotechnical and coastal engineer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, lives in Cape Neddick and says he has never held office.[2]

Andrews qualified as a declared unaffiliated write-in candidate; the Secretary of State's list gives his town as York.[1] He says he is running unaffiliated because power belongs to the people and humanity comes first, and that he is paying for the campaign himself. His other stated priorities include federal jobs programs, lower heating costs, treating addiction as a health issue and undoing Citizens United.[2]
