Biography

Bobby Khan is a no-party candidate for Nevada's 1st Congressional District and a first-time political candidate. Born in Scotland, he is a former luxury car dealer who, according to Casino.org, pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge and served time in federal prison. He says he is running on justice-system reform, veterans' benefits and ending federal taxes on gambling winnings.[1][2][3]

Khan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, according to Ballotpedia; Casino.org reports he was born Babar Khan. He graduated from Absegami High School and attended Philadelphia University.[1][2] In his Ballotpedia survey he describes himself as the son of immigrants who began working in his father's restaurant at age 12, then left college for the car business, ran luxury dealerships in his 20s and started his own exotic car company.[1]

Casino.org reports that Khan owned Emporio Motor Group, a New Jersey luxury car dealership, and was indicted on wire fraud charges in 2014. He was a federal fugitive for six years and surrendered in 2020, then pleaded guilty to a charge involving $550,000 in losses and served eight months in federal prison. According to Casino.org, he has characterized the conviction as the result of prosecutorial overreach.[2] The Nevada Independent says he moved to Las Vegas in 2023.[3]

Khan initially ran for the 1st District seat as a Republican, according to the Nevada Independent, and later appeared on the general-election ballot with no party affiliation.[1][3] His Ballotpedia survey lists his campaign priorities as reforming the justice system, benefits for veterans and ending federal taxes on gambling winnings.[1]
