Biography

Blake Miguez is a Republican state senator from the New Iberia area, an oil and gas executive and attorney who served in the Louisiana House from 2015 to 2024 before winning a Senate seat in 2023. After an earlier U.S. Senate bid and a run for the 5th District, he qualified for the 6th Congressional District race on the final day of qualifying in August 2026.[1][2][3]

Miguez was born on November 21, 1981, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and graduated from Catholic High School in New Iberia in 1999.[1][2] He earned a political science degree from Louisiana State University in 2004 and a law degree from the Southern University Law Center in 2008.[1] He works as an executive in the oil and gas industry and is a corporate attorney licensed in Louisiana, according to Wikipedia; his campaign website says he owns a family business in the oil and gas industry.[1][2][4] He is a competitive shooter and a grand master of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association, and he appeared on the History Channel's show Top Shot, according to Wikipedia and his campaign website.[2][4]

Miguez won a February 2015 special election to the Louisiana House of Representatives, District 49, and served until January 2024.[1][2] He was Majority Leader of the Louisiana House from January 2020 to January 2024.[2] He was elected to the Louisiana Senate, District 22, in October 2023 and took office on January 8, 2024; he is a member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus.[1][2]

Miguez announced a campaign for the U.S. Senate against Sen. Bill Cassidy in June 2025 but did not appear on the May 16, 2026 primary ballot.[1][2] He then ran for the 5th Congressional District and received a Trump endorsement in February 2026.[1][2][3] After the congressional primaries were canceled and districts redrawn, he qualified for the 6th District on August 7, 2026.[3] Miguez says he has lived in both Baton Rouge and New Iberia and acknowledges that his primary residence is in New Iberia, while Rick Edmonds disputes that he lives in the district.[3]
