Biography
Adam Long is a Republican candidate for the South Dakota House of Representatives, District 2, in the November 3, 2026 general election, after advancing from the June 2 Republican primary.[1][2] A U.S. Navy veteran and small business owner, he is a volunteer firefighter and says he is running to push for zero-based budgeting, responsible economic growth and support for volunteer fire departments.[1][3]
Adam Long served in the U.S. Navy from 2001 to 2018 and lists his profession as business owner.[1] In a 2026 Ballotpedia survey, Long said he returned to South Dakota to raise his family and build small businesses, and that he and his wife Stacey have four children.[3] He said he is a firefighter and president of the board of the Split Rock Volunteer Fire Department, a youth soccer coach in Brandon and a board member of Hope Harbor, and that he helped build the nonprofit Healing Warriors.[3] He also said he serves as South Dakota's Wounded Warrior Project volunteer government affairs advocate and, with his wife, as elected precinct committeeman for Precinct 4-17.[3]
Long's three campaign messages in the survey were getting the state on a real budget through zero-based budgeting, growth that does not rely on corporate subsidies, and support for volunteer fire departments.[3] He said data centers and other large companies should pay the full cost of their utilities and infrastructure.[3]
