Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.
Robert Short grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming.[2] He took his first job at age 12 on a ranch, went to work in the oil patch at 16, in power-line construction at 17 and in a uranium mine at 18, and stayed there until it closed.[3] Short then studied electrical engineering and computer science, worked in technology, and was recruited into a 20-year career in nuclear science.[2][3]
In 2004 he started businesses in Douglas and Glenrock; his campaign site says he returned to Douglas with his family in 2005 and that the businesses have since grown to span energy, agriculture, retail and tourism and more than 120 jobs.[2][3] Short lives south of Douglas.[3]
Short was first elected to the Converse County Commission in 2014 and has since been re-elected twice.[2][3] He is vice president of the Wyoming County Commissioners Association and has served on several state boards and as an election judge.[2][3] He won the August 18, 2026 Republican primary, and about half of the roughly $430,000 he had raised before it came from loans.[1][4]

Priorities
- Election administration conducted in a fair, honest and accurate manner, and partnering with county clerks on training, tools and resources; on the federal role he said: "I believe the federal government has no role in Wyoming elections. I would work with the federal government if the law directed me to do so."[5][6]
- Business regulation: stopping people who "take advantage of our privacy laws" to create sham corporations, and requiring that someone can be held responsible for a registered organization's actions.[5][6]
- Disclosure of donors to organizations that spend "dark money" in Wyoming.[6]
- Waiting to see the effects of recently enacted election-law changes before recommending more.[6]
