- In the August 18 Republican primary, Short defeated Rachel Williams, chair of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus, and others in preliminary results; McCarty was unopposed in the Democratic primary.[5][7]
- Wyoming's Secretary of State oversees statewide elections and business registration, and is first in line for gubernatorial succession.[5]
