Biography

Stacy Garrity is Pennsylvania's State Treasurer, first elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, and the Republican nominee for governor. A retired Army Reserve colonel, she worked at Global Tungsten & Powders from 1987 until taking office.[1][2]

Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Garrity was born in Athens, Pennsylvania, in 1964 and is a native of Bradford County.[1][4] After graduating from Sayre High School, she earned a degree in finance and economics from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and later received a certificate from the Cornell University Business Management Institute.[5]

Garrity served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 30 years as a military police officer, retiring as a colonel in 2016.[1][5] She deployed three times: to Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008.[5] The Treasury says she was one of the officers in charge of an internment camp for enemy combatants in Iraq, was awarded the Bronze Star twice and received the Legion of Merit.[5]

Alongside her military service, Garrity worked at Global Tungsten & Powders Corp. in Towanda from 1987 to 2021, starting as a cost accountant and becoming one of the company's first two female vice presidents.[1][5] Her final position there was vice president for government affairs and industry liaison.[1]

In 2019, Garrity lost the Republican nomination in the special election for Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district to state Rep. Fred Keller.[1] She was elected State Treasurer on November 3, 2020, defeating incumbent Joe Torsella, was sworn in on January 19, 2021, and won a second term on November 5, 2024.[1][5] She announced her campaign for governor in August 2025.[1] Garrity serves on the board of the Bradford County United Way and as a trustee of Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, and is married to Daniel Gizzi.[5][4]
