Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Mann became a police officer at 21, before he had graduated from college, following his father into law enforcement.[4] He was a police officer in Lawrence, according to the Kansas News Service, until he was struck by a drunk driver during a routine traffic stop in 2002; the crash and his injuries ended his career in uniform.[4][5]

After years of physical therapy he attended Washburn University School of Law on a Koch Public Service Scholarship.[4][3] He then became an assistant district attorney in the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting cases from traffic violations to murder, and later a senior staff attorney at the Kansas Securities Commission.[4][3] While in Wyandotte County he began volunteering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, serving as Kansas Advisory Board chair in 2011, and he was appointed to the MADD national board in 2014 and served as its chair until 2020.[4]

In 2016 Mann opened Mann Law Firm, and since 2019 his practice has focused mainly on representing victims of drunk driving and their families.[4][3] He is married to Ashley Mann, a cardiothoracic surgeon in Olathe, and they live in Lawrence with their two children.[4] He was the Democratic nominee for attorney general in 2022 and lost to Kobach, and he advanced from the Democratic primary on August 4, 2026.[1]
