Biography

Wyatt Lilly is the Democratic candidate for West Virginia State Senate District 6 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Mark R. Maynard.[1][2] A Mercer County native, he has owned Cheap Thrills Records since 1995, according to his Ballotpedia survey answers.[3]

Wyatt Lilly earned a high school diploma from Princeton High School, a bachelor's degree from Davidson College in 1994 and a graduate degree from West Virginia University in 2010.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he started his business, Cheap Thrills Records, in 1995, that his wife is a public school teacher at Bluefield High School, and that he decided to run after being asked to by others and growing frustrated with state government.[3]

Lilly won the May 12, 2026 Democratic primary for District 6 with 54.3 percent of the vote, defeating Joshua Hamby.[1] In the same survey he listed clean drinking water, support for West Virginia public schools and opposition to the proposed sale of Welch Community Hospital as his key messages, and he said he opposes the Hope Scholarship voucher program's growth.[3] He also named education, water and transportation infrastructure, health care and the minimum wage as policy areas he is passionate about, and listed the United Mine Workers of America, the West Virginia AFL-CIO, the IBEW and the West Virginia Building and Construction Trades among his endorsers.[3]
