On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Governor of Maryland

Biography

Wes Moore is the incumbent Governor of Maryland, seeking a second term with Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller. A Rhodes Scholar and Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, he led the Robin Hood Foundation before being elected governor in 2022. In office he has signed measures on housing access and on limits to local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.[1][2][3][4]

Moore was born in Takoma Park, Maryland.[5] He earned an associate degree from Valley Forge Military College in 1998, a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a master's degree from Wolfson College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar.[1][5]

He was commissioned as a U.S. Army second lieutenant, served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, where he deployed in 2005, and later served as a White House Fellow and worked as an investment banker.[1][5]

Before entering politics Moore founded the education company BridgeEdU, wrote books including The Other Wes Moore, and served as CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, a New York anti-poverty organization.[1][5]

Moore has been Governor of Maryland since January 2023.[6] In February 2026 he signed SB 245/HB 444, which prohibits State and local jurisdictions in Maryland from entering 287(g) agreements with federal immigration authorities and requires any existing agreements to be terminated.[3] At the final bill signing in May 2026 he signed the Maryland Housing Certainty Act, a collective-bargaining bill for nontenure-track faculty, child care scholarship changes and a phone-free schools act that requires counties to adopt "bell-to-bell" device policies by the 2027-2028 school year.[4]
