Biography

Welson Chang is the Republican and Queens United Party nominee for NY State Assembly District 24, running against incumbent David Weprin.[1][2] He describes himself as a small-business owner and naturalized U.S. citizen who founded a manufacturing business in 2020 after a decade in nonprofit administration, and has not previously held elected office. His campaign priorities include lowering taxes, supporting small businesses and keeping Regents exam requirements.[2][3]

According to his Ballotpedia Candidate Connection survey, Chang graduated from Massena Central High School and earned a B.A. in history from McGill University (2000) and an M.S. in accountancy from the University of Phoenix (2020). He describes himself as a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2008.[2] He says he spent a decade in nonprofit administration before entering the private sector in 2013, and founded a manufacturing business in 2020.[2]

Chang became a county committee member in 2022, according to his survey, and says he serves on the boards of the Queens Village Republican Club and the Hollis Court at Bayside Coop.[2] He was not formally endorsed by the Queens County Republican Party as of April 2026, and he advanced to the general election without a primary after the June 23 Republican primary was canceled.[1][2] During the 2026 campaign he spoke at Queens Village Republican Club events in Bayside and Alley Pond Park.[3][4]
