DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Secretary of State of Alabama

Biography

Wayne Rogers is the Democratic nominee for Alabama secretary of state, a first-time candidate and an attorney who has practiced in Alabama since 1988.[1][2] Since 2019 he has worked as executive assistant to the Jefferson County sheriff, and he lists ending straight-ticket voting, adopting early voting and letting absentee voters fix ballot defects as his key messages.[1]

Rogers is a native of Thomasville and has lived in Birmingham for 45 years. He earned a B.A. in music from Samford University in 1984 and a J.D. from Samford's Cumberland School of Law in 1988.[1][2]

As a litigator he appeared in court in 66 of Alabama's 67 counties. He joined the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in 2019 and is also a former chair of the Jefferson County Democratic Party.[1][2]

Rogers serves on the boards of several mental-health entities, including the JBS Mental Health Authority, and on the national board of Crisis Intervention Team International. He and his wife, Lauri Sutton Rogers, have been married for 38 years and have three grown children.[1]
