Biography
Tom Downing is the Democratic candidate for the North Carolina State Senate, District 50, in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Kevin Corbin (R).[1][2]
Tom Downing said in a Ballotpedia survey that he is running for a new Democratic majority in the General Assembly and wants to work with rural and urban legislators on affordable housing, affordable child care and rising health insurance costs.[3] He said he would not distribute negative campaign literature against his opponent and would hold frequent town halls, listening sessions and office hours in each of the district's eight counties.[3] Downing also listed public school funding, public safety pay and benefits, volunteer fire department funding, infrastructure, and ending gerrymandering among the areas he cares about.[3]
