Biography
Sydnie Hutchinson is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 108, challenging incumbent Republican John Torbett in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][3] A paralegal since 2014, she says in a Ballotpedia survey that her priorities include housing and living costs, public education funding and access to affordable health care.[2]
Hutchinson was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to Ballotpedia.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey she said she graduated from Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2010 and earned an associate of applied science in paralegal studies from Ivy Tech Community College in 2014.[2] She said she has worked as a paralegal since 2014 in personal injury, wrongful death, family law and workers' compensation, and has held service-industry jobs including bartending, serving and management.[2] Ballotpedia says she has been affiliated with the Gaston County Democratic Party as third vice chair, the Gaston County Young Democrats as vice president, and the Gaston County Democratic Women's Group.[1]
Hutchinson ran for the same seat in 2024 and lost the general election to Torbett, 64.6 percent to 35.4 percent.[1] She said she would work on the affordability crisis in Gaston County, increased investment in public education, and access to quality affordable health care, and that she opposes government overreach on women's reproductive health care.[2]
