Biography
Susan Hoisington is the Democratic candidate for the Missouri House of Representatives, District 17, in the November 3, 2026 general election, where she faces incumbent Republican Bill Allen.[1][2] A retired educator from the Northland area, she says she spent nearly three decades in public education as a teacher and administrator and is running on public schools, workers' rights and health care access.[3]
Susan Hoisington earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1995, a master's degree in educational administration from Sam Houston State University in 2005, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Sam Houston State University in 2016.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, Hoisington said she returned to college as a single mother of two daughters and began a career teaching junior high and high school math.[3] She said she later worked as an instructional leader and district administrator, and she described herself as a grandmother and Clay County community member.[3]
Hoisington advanced from the Democratic primary on August 4, 2026.[1] In the survey, she listed three campaign messages: adequate funding, educator respect and safe learning environments for public schools; fair pay, safe working conditions and a voice at work for workers; and accessible, affordable health care, including what she called bodily freedom.[3]
