Biography

Stephen Szczurko-Walton is the Democratic candidate for the Washington House of Representatives, District 31-Position 1, in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Drew Stokesbary.[1][2] A U.S. Navy veteran who worked as a nuclear reactor operator and has worked as an HVAC technician in Washington, he advanced from the August 4, 2026 primary with 42.0% of the vote.[1][3]

Szczurko-Walton graduated from Summit Preparatory Charter High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2014, and earned a graduate degree from the State University of New York, Empire State College in 2025.[1] He served in the U.S. Navy from 2015 to 2024.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he grew up in the Bay Area, served nine and a half years as a nuclear reactor operator, deployed three times aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, and earned a Master of Public Administration before moving to Auburn, Washington, to raise his family.[3]

His stated campaign priorities include bringing down the cost of healthcare, housing and energy for working families.[3] He also said he would work to pass a bill like SB 6358 to bar corporations, unions and non-profits from spending money to influence elections, and to modernize the electric grid and increase staffing and funding for the Utilities and Transportation Commission.[3]
