Stephanie Young was born in Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School.[1] She earned a bachelor's degree in international relations and affairs from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1990.[1] Her career has included work as executive director of the Community Education Commission, district one manager with the Detroit Mayor's Office Department of Neighborhoods, and outreach manager of the Detroit Area Agency on Aging.[1] In a 2024 Ballotpedia survey, she said her first job was as a legislative staffer and that she has worked in four Detroit mayoral administrations.[2]
