Biography
Stephanie Popescu is the Democratic candidate for Maryland State Senate District 42 in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which Republican Kevin Ford is also running.[1] An elementary school teacher, she won the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary over Paul Henderson and Paul Konka.[1]
Popescu earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola University Maryland and has worked as an elementary school teacher.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, her campaign said she has spent more than a decade as a public school teacher and that early in her career she worked three jobs while teaching full-time.[2]
The survey listed her priorities as a balanced state budget without increasing the tax burden, higher pay and support for teachers, and addressing utility costs, grocery prices and the housing shortage.[2] It named Delegate Michele Guyton of District 42B among her endorsers.[2]
