Biography
Sonya Spaulding is the Democratic candidate for the Vermont House of Representatives, Washington-3 District, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she served on the school board for 13 years, is beginning her second term on the Barre City Council, and is a business owner.[3]
Ballotpedia lists Sonya Spaulding as having earned a bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1993 and a graduate degree from Lesley University in 1999, with a career as a business owner.[1] She previously held an at-large seat on the Barre Unified Union School District 97 board.[1]
In the survey, Spaulding named housing as a basic need, citing support for affordable and subsidized housing, and said she wants to address the effects of private equity and short-term rentals on the housing market.[3] She also listed lowering health insurance costs, having corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share, and getting money out of politics as ways to make Vermont more affordable.[3] Citing the 2023 and 2024 floods in Barre, she wrote that flood response should be approached regionally, starting with county or watershed regions.[3]
