Biography

Sonia Pollard is the Republican candidate for the South Carolina House of Representatives, District 78, in the November 3, 2026 general election, where incumbent Beth Bernstein (D) and Angelo Joyner (L) are also on the ballot.[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she described herself as a former educator and an immigrant from St. Vincent and the Grenadines who lists education, the economy and energy, and infrastructure as her priorities.[3]

Sonia Pollard graduated from Greenwich High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1995, a graduate degree from Regent University School of Government in 1999 and a law degree from Regent University School of Law in 2002.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she immigrated to the United States nearly 50 years ago from the Caribbean island chain of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and that she most recently taught U.S. History and the Constitution to high school juniors in Columbia.[3]

Pollard said in the survey that her campaign focuses on education, the economy and energy, and infrastructure.[3] She said she would work to lower the tax and regulatory burden on families, offer incentives for businesses to move to the state, support small businesses and lower energy prices, and she said road conditions need attention, including in parts of District 78.[3] She also named the sanctity of life and the U.S. Constitution among the policy areas she is passionate about.[3]
