Biography

Signe Snortland is the Democratic candidate for the North Dakota State Senate, District 33, in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing Republican incumbent Keith Boehm.[1][2] A retired archaeologist and federal water-resources manager, she says she is concerned about health care costs, rural access to care and local control over data centers.[2][3]

Snortland graduated from Bismarck High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota in 1976, and received a graduate degree from the University of Manitoba in 1978.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she was born and raised in North Dakota and worked for the State of North Dakota for 16 years and for the U.S. Department of the Interior for 25 years in North Dakota and Colorado.[3] She said she retired from federal service as Area Manager of the Eastern Colorado Area Office, responsible for management, development and protection of water, land and environmental resources.[3]

Snortland advanced from the Democratic primary on June 9, 2026, receiving 577 votes.[2] She said in her survey that she is concerned about health care premiums, rural access to health care, the viability of small-town grocery stores and local control over construction of new data centers.[3] She named protecting the rural way of life, balancing economic development with natural resource preservation, government transparency, affordability and fiscal responsibility as policy priorities, and listed the District 33 Democratic-NPL Party as an endorser.[3]
