RCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Alaska House District 5

Biography

Sheldon Prout is the Republican candidate for the Alaska House of Representatives, District 5, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] A Kodiak native from a commercial fishing family, he says he has declined party and political action committee money.[3]

Sheldon Prout graduated from Kodiak High School and received a bachelor's degree from Utah Tech University in 2023.[1] In a 2026 Ballotpedia survey, he said he comes from a third-generation commercial fishing family, has worked in the industry himself, and was born and raised in Kodiak.[3]

Prout said in the survey that he would represent his district rather than a party and has declined party and PAC money.[3] He listed his priorities as representation on the Board of Fisheries and a tax credit for in-state seafood processing, restoring year-round ferry service for Cordova and Kodiak, and education funding through a Base Student Allocation that is not re-fought each session, along with a defined-benefit retirement option for teachers.[3]
