Biography
Sean Vadney is the Libertarian Party's nominee for Secretary of State, selected to replace Alex Astley on the general election ballot. A Denver-suburb native and small business owner, he has been involved in politics for about seven years. His priorities include secure ballots, easier business filing and accessible voting for people with disabilities.[1][2][3]
Vadney was born in a Denver suburb and raised by a working-class single mother.[2][3] He says he took up piano at age five and has pursued music throughout his life, and that his interest in politics began around age ten.[2] Ballotpedia lists his career experience as acting, and his campaign site describes him as a business owner.[1][3]
Vadney says he has been heavily involved in national, state and local politics for almost seven years and describes his political philosophy as grounded in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.[2][3] He received 38.1 percent of the vote to Alex Astley's 61.9 percent in the June 30, 2026, Libertarian primary, and Ballotpedia reports that he was later selected to replace Astley as the party's candidate.[1][3] His Ballotpedia survey commits him to a public Accessible Voting Report, mandatory accessibility training for poll workers, and standardized accessible voting equipment statewide.[1]
