Biography
Sean Steele is an independent candidate for Indiana House of Representatives District 65 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Christopher May. He is a public school teacher who says he has taught in the district for 31 years.[1][2][3]
Sean Steele graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School, earned a bachelor's degree from DePauw University in 1990 and a law degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1994.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he has lived most of his life in Lawrence County and has been married for 27 years, with two grown children.[2] He said he currently teaches art at Bedford Middle School and previously taught social studies at Orleans Jr./Sr. High School for 22 years, and that he has coached for most of his teaching career.[2]
Steele said he is running because he believes politicians serve parties and large donors rather than voters.[2] He listed affordability, access to affordable healthcare, full funding for public education and a more restrictive approach to data centers as priorities.[2]
