Sarah Wolcott

Sarah Wolcott is the Democratic candidate for the New York State Assembly, District 139, in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which she faces incumbent Stephen Hawley (Republican and Conservative Party).[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, Wolcott said she was born and raised in Batavia, has worked blue-collar jobs since age 17, and is running on affordability, worker protections and government accountability.[3]

Sarah Wolcott earned a high school diploma from Pembroke High School and associate degrees from Genesee Community College in 2008 and 2016, according to Ballotpedia, which lists her career experience as working in manufacturing.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she was born and raised in Batavia, New York, and has been a member of the working class since she was 17.[3]

Wolcott said in the survey that she is running because rural New York deserves representation focused on the everyday realities of working people, and that Western New York deserves fresh representation rather than career and legacy politicians.[3] She listed her key messages as giving working-class and rural voices a seat at the table in Albany, making life more affordable, and demanding accountability from government and powerful interests.[3] She said ordinary residents should not bear the cost of major developments such as data centers, and that corporations should not receive subsidies or shift costs onto local taxpayers.[3] Her stated policy interests include health care, housing and utility costs, workers' rights and labor protections, a tax system in which large corporations and the very wealthy pay more, and government transparency and ethics.[3]
