Sarah Rogerson

Sarah Rogerson is the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for New York State Senate District 44 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican James Tedisco.[1] A public interest attorney and law professor, she founded Albany Law School's Immigration Law Clinic and now leads its Edward P. Swyer Justice Center, according to her Ballotpedia survey responses and campaign website.[2][3]

Rogerson earned a high school diploma from Coldwater High School, a bachelor's degree from Hillsdale College and a law degree from the Seton Hall University School of Law, and she also graduated from Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law, according to Ballotpedia.[1] Her listed career experience is as a law professor.[1]

In a Ballotpedia survey, Rogerson described herself as a public interest attorney representing protesters and immigrants, a law professor and an organizer, and said she serves as a family member of a school shooting victim advocating for community-based gun violence prevention.[2] She said she served on the Niskayuna School Board during the COVID-19 pandemic.[2][3] Rogerson won the Democratic primary for District 44 on June 23, 2026, receiving 68.4 percent of the vote (8,656 votes) to Patrick Nelson's 31.5 percent (3,984 votes).[1]

In her survey responses, Rogerson listed affordability, particularly housing, utilities and health care costs, along with climate policy, protection of immigrant communities and reproductive freedom as her main policy interests.[2] She said her campaign has been endorsed by the Working Families Party, Citizen Action of New York, IBEW Local 236, 1199 SEIU and the Schenectady County Democratic Committee, among others.[2]
