Biography
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the incumbent Republican governor of Arkansas, seeking a second term. A former White House press secretary under President Trump, she was elected in 2022 with about 63% of the vote.[1][2] Her first term included the LEARNS Act, which created the state's school voucher program, and income-tax rate cuts signed in 2023 and 2026.[2][3]
Sanders is the daughter of Mike Huckabee, who was governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School and earned a degree from Ouachita Baptist University in 2004.[1][4]
Before running for office she worked in political campaigns and consulting, including a role at the U.S. Department of Education under President George W. Bush, as a founding partner of Second Street Strategies, as national political director of her father's 2008 presidential campaign, as a senior adviser to Tim Pawlenty's 2012 presidential campaign, and as campaign manager of her father's 2016 presidential campaign.[4] She was also a senior adviser to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.[4][1]
In the Trump administration, Sanders was named deputy press secretary in January 2017 and was promoted to press secretary on July 21, 2017. She stepped down at the end of June 2019.[4]
Sanders won the 2022 governor's race with 62.96% of the vote and became governor on January 10, 2023. She is the first woman to serve as governor of Arkansas.[1][4]
