Sarah Blessing

Sarah Blessing is the Democratic candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives, District 70, in the November 3, 2026 general election, and a former fifth-grade teacher and business owner.[1][2][3] She won the May 5, 2026 Democratic primary and previously ran for the same seat in 2024.[2]

Sarah Blessing was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from Floyd Central High School.[2] She earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2003 and a graduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan in 2008.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she taught fifth grade at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany, Indiana, for 18 years and is a mother of three children who attend public schools in Harrison County.[3]

In her Ballotpedia survey, Blessing said she became involved in the Harrison County Democratic Party after the 2016 presidential election, ran for county council in 2022 and for the state House in 2024, and started an independent media company called Project Next with Tim Peck.[3] Ballotpedia lists her as the Democratic nominee for District 70 in 2024, when she lost the general election to incumbent Republican Karen Engleman, 73.4 percent to 26.6 percent.[2] In 2026 she won the Democratic primary with 49.9 percent of the vote over Jerry Finn and Tamyra Persinger-Andres.[2]

Blessing said in the survey that her campaign messages are to take back state government, which she said has been influenced by wealthy donors and corporations, and that she will not take corporate money.[3] She also said she would work to lower prices and utility bills, address the siting of data centers in rural communities, and direct public funds back to public schools rather than religious and charter schools.[3]
