Biography

Ryan Stanford is the Democratic candidate for Kentucky House of Representatives District 39 in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing incumbent Matt Lockett (R).[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he has worked in commercial pest control for the past decade.[3]

Stanford said in a Ballotpedia survey that he grew up in the Lexington and Nicholasville area, attended East Jessamine High School and later Bluegrass Community and Technical College, and spent summers working on a farm in Georgetown.[3] He said he began his work life bagging groceries and working in car sales before entering commercial pest control, and that he has two daughters and coaches his older daughter's soccer team.[3]

Stanford said his interest in public service began about ten years earlier after meeting then-state Representative Russ Meyer, who came to his door while campaigning.[3] His stated priorities include keeping public education funding in public schools, opposing charter schools and vouchers, protecting abortion access, and supporting unions and workers' rights.[3]
