Ross Barranco

Ross Barranco is the Republican candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives, District 21, in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which he faces incumbent Democrat Kelly Breen.[1][2] A retired geologist who worked in the energy industry, he says he is running to reverse what he describes as Michigan's decline in its economy, education and population.[2][3]

Ross Barranco graduated from Warren Easton Charter High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of New Orleans in 1972.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he retired as Chief Geologist for DTE Gas after about 45 years in the energy industry, working in exploration, development and natural gas storage.[3] He also said he was a three-time national track and field champion and a national-level USA Track and Field official who worked the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.[3]

Barranco said he was elected a precinct delegate in 2022 and serves on the Oakland County Republican Party Executive Committee and the 6th Congressional District Executive Committee, and that he was elected to the Michigan Republican Party State Committee in November 2025.[3] He said he has also served on the Novi City absentee ballot counting board and on the Patient Family Advisory Council for Huron Valley Sinai Hospital, which he resigned from to run.[3] Among his campaign messages, he said the Michigan Board of Education should be held accountable for the state's 44th-place literacy ranking.[3]
