Biography
Ron Ruman is the Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, District 196, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, he described himself as an elected township supervisor and former state government communications official who served four governors.[3]
Ron Ruman earned a high school diploma from Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School and a bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1981, and his career experience includes working in communications.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he covered the legislature and administration as a television reporter and later served in both the legislative and executive branches as a senior staff member, including in senior communications positions for four governors, two from each party.[3] He also said he has served on township and county planning commissions, as a senior center board president, and on the local Penn State alumni association board and the York County SPCA board.[3]
Ruman was the Democratic candidate in the special general election for District 196 on May 19, 2026, which George Margetas (R) won with 55.6 percent of the vote to Ruman's 44.4 percent.[1] In the survey, he said that as a township supervisor he created a rainy day fund and passed four consecutive budgets without a tax increase.[3] His stated priorities include changing the local earned income tax to a personal income tax with a dollar-for-dollar reduction in residential property taxes, making data centers pay for the electricity they use, ending what he called excess funding of cyber charter schools, opening primary elections to all voters, and supporting a citizens commission to draw legislative and congressional districts.[3] He listed the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Democratic Party of York County as endorsers.[3]
